His Castle

Over the years I have worked from life, meaning that I did nature studies, figure studies, hand studies etc. My main work however comes from a form of subconscious connection combined with a state of meditative concentration as I would like to call it. This piece here is somewhat a combination of both. A friend of mine who loves to travel often sends me photos taken during his trips. Today, I received an email with photos from France. There was a photo of a castle with a pond. A beautiful location, beautifully captured. I looked at the castle for a minute or so and then I created this mixed media work (watercolor/marker) freely, without looking at the photo again or thinking too much, just letting the hand do what it wants to do. The castle turned into an abandoned mansion. The title is "His Castle".
